Located in the transatlantic ferry terminal of Cherbourg, a masterpiece of art deco, the Cité de la Mer will show you how man has learned the underwater world to reach the depths.
In the reception nave, you will discover a unique collection of emblematic devices of deep-sea diving, from the Redoutable, the largest visitable submarine in the world, from Jules Verne’s Nutilus to Henri Germain’s abyssal station. Delauze via the Nautilus of Ifremer.
A permanent journey
unique in FranceThe Ocean Pole will amaze young and old with the Abyssal Aquarium, the deepest in Europe with its 10.70 meters deep. More than 1000 tropical fish live in this lagoon coral plateau.
Since 2012, the Cité de la Mer has opened a unique permanent course in France of more than 2500m²: “Titanic, Retour à Cherbourg”. You will dive into the history of the legendary liner that stopped at Cherbourg in 1912 before sinking and European emigration to the New World.
As part of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day, come and discover from April 19th to September 30th 2014 the exhibition “Cherbourg … And freedom came from the sea”.
